This work focuses on Jesus’s personal intercession recorded in John 17. The author distinguishes it from the prayer Christ taught disciples, noting that “Forgive us our trespasses” could never have come from Christ himself. The prayer occurs after the Last Supper, when Jesus’s earthly ministry was essentially complete. Rainsford emphasizes that Christ spoke audibly so disciples could listen, and the Holy Spirit preserved every petition.
