John R. Claypool explores the lives and personalities of the original apostles, drawing out the very human doubts, ambitions, and failures that shaped their journeys toward becoming Jesus’ closest followers.
Rather than idealizing these figures, Claypool highlights their ordinariness as an encouragement to modern readers, showing that God has always used flawed, unlikely people to carry out extraordinary purposes. (Title correction: the published title is “The First to Follow,” not “First Followers” as the user’s URL slug suggested.)
